Threatened: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
This project offers an intimate exploration of the unique rock landscapes within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, capturing a vulnerable public land at a critical crossroads. Recently threatened by sweeping reductions to its protected borders, this irreplaceable ecosystem faces the imminent encroachment of commercial resource extraction.
By documenting the sandstone’s layered textures, sculpted formations, and diverse coloring, this project transforms exposed geology into a powerful visual argument for conservation. The resulting imagery moves beyond passive documentation, inviting viewers to connect deeply with the fragile, ancient beauty of these public lands and reinforcing the urgent necessity of their permanent preservation.
