I am a Denver family photographer, specializing in documentary storytelling sessions.
I am originally from Memphis, and still have a bit of a southern accent. It usually comes out when I am talking to other Southerner’s, when I am tired or when I have had a couple glasses of wine!
I have a very silly and lovable 5 year old daughter and two fantastic stepkids, ages 13 and 15. All three keep me on my toes!
I have had the privilege of living in some amazing cities during my adult life before settling down in Denver – Chicago, San Francisco, and NYC. Every city taught me something new about myself.
I am a certified Wine Sommelier. I was educated in NYC where I also worked at a wine store. My current favorite wines are Vinho Verde’s from Portugal and Rioja’s from Spain.
I went to the University of Chocolate. Yes, I said chocolate! I ran a chocolate tasting tour in NYC for many years, teaching people how to taste chocolate like one learns to taste wine. I eat 1/2 bar of dark chocolate everyday – it is actually really good for you! My “go to” favorite chocolate is Theo 70%.
I love to travel to international destinations. Before I had a family, I visited over 30 different countries. Documenting my travels is where I first developed my love for photography. Some of my top favorites spots I have been are: Cambodia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Nepal, Switzerland and Turkey.
My photography has moved from documenting my travels to documenting families – both my own and my clients. I want to take pictures of real moments that in the end will create meaningful memories. During my 3 yr old’s birthday celebration at her school, I was asked what she was like when she was younger. With all the craziness of “babyhood”, a lot of these precious memories evaporated from my mind. I don’t want that to be the case ever again. And, I don’t want it to be the case for my clients either.
I am honored to have had my work shown and recognized internationally. Some of these honors include:
Marin Museum of Contemporary Art – Juried Show, Novato, California
National Juried Photography Show & Sale – Louisville, Colorado
Camera Obscura Juried Photography Show – Denver, Colorado
The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards – Juried Show, Madrid, Spain
International Photo Contest in Black & White Child Photography – Nominee
National Geographic Travel – Visit California Finalist
National Geographic Your Shot – Published, Daily Dozen
I love quotes – they inspire me. The one below does a really good job of explaining my photography philosophy…
“How can we hold on to those fleeting moments in our lives? Hold onto the moments that otherwise evaporate into the forgotten past? Or moments that becomes faded and morphed into our own version of reality as they sit in the corners of our memories, losing their truth and shifting focus. The only way to hold onto these moments and share them for years to come, in all their beauty and truth and glorious imperfections, without losing accuracy is through photography.” – Rossane Moreland
